VINTAGE RUSSWIN #444 3/4  2 3/4" BS - ENTRY MORTISE LOCK w/KEY  (15569)
Vintage:  circa 1890-1920: RUSSWIN # 444 3/4 which uncommonly has the key above the turn knob!  Large entry mortise lock and it comes with one functioning key. Works great.
The lock is reversible.  Heavy brass faceplate with a great patina.  The body of the lock clearly maker marked RUSSWIN one of America's many high quality manufacturers of builder's hardware during the second half of the 19th Century and early 20th Century.
Dimensions as follows:
FACEPLATE:
Brass front plate measures  7 3/8" long, 1 1/8" wide, 1/8" thick.
DROP:
The drop ( the distance from the center of the knob post hole up to the center of the round portion of the key hole) is 2 5/8".
BOX:
Box is 3 3/4" deep from the front edge of the brass faceplate to the back of the box and it is 5 1/2" top to bottom.
SCREWS:
Screws are on 6 5/8" centers.
BACKSET:
Backset (the distance from the front of the front plate to the center of the knob post hole) is
2 3/4
".
KNOB SPINDLE or KNOB SHAFT:
The lock is made for a 5/16" square post split shaft on one side and a 3/8" shaft on the other side.
Full restored and works perfectly.  P.F. Corbin was right:  Great houses do deserve great hardware!
