    Description

    Very early antique wrought iron Suffolk thumb latch handle, circa 1780.  This dominant upper cusp style was found most often in Pennsylvania where this handle was found.  Measuring almost 9" overall with upper cusp 4" high x 2 1/2" across widest point.  The hand grasp is 4" and rounded.  Early metal shows age striations on handle grasp.  Flat thumb press mounted notched style with straight lift going through door and extending 2" total from back.  Showing some surface pitting appropriate for its age, but very sound and well executed early American handle.
