eBay Listing Template r1RARE SIGNED GREENWOOD, CINCINNATI CARPENTER LOCK CIRCA 1850-1869 (15570)
Vintage: Extremely hard to find, wonderful condition and with the key and the keeper! In such good condition that it didn't need much more than to be cleaned and to have a key filed for it! Functions perfectly. Very well made carpenter style rim lock; Miles Greenwood was known for the high quality of both his locks and his hinges.
Greenwood had an early foundry in Cincinnati and made the pontoon anchors for the boats used by the John Fremont Expedition in the early 1800's. The foundry was also involved later in the 19th Century in the castings of the cannons used by General Grants western armies during the Civil War. In addition to building locks, he was the premier hinge manufacture on the Western Frontier along the Ohio River in the early and mid 1800's. Old homes and barns in this area are still sometimes found with Greenwood hinges and hardware.
Box is 5" wide by 3 3/4" high. Backset for the knob post is 4".
Thoroughly tested, cleaned inside and out, very well made, functions perfectly, should be good for another 100 years!
