Antique Complete Original Steel Grab Lock Chest or Box Lock, Complete, 1890's

Description

Single semi-mortise flush mount antique original grab lock style lock with original key and strike for a chest or box.  The lock is very clean and in very good condition and working well - may never have been used.  Steel lock body measures 2  3/8" high x 3" across requiring a 1/4" surface mortise.  The top edge is 3" x 1/2"  Selvedge is about 1  5/8" - original hollow key is 3".  Strike or keeper measures 2  3/4" x 5/8" at widest and has a stepped offset of 1/2".  This grab lock style of chest lock does not need the key to lock because it will automatically grab into the lock when the lid is closed and be locked - the key is then needed to open.   Each purchase is for one complete grab lock.
