    Description

An early square cornered Pennsylvania German or Dutch elbow latch with the removable screw-off exterior handle, circa 1810, professionally restored and complete.  Levers are deep spoon style.  The 1 1/8" round rosette is a replacement made in our shop.  Lock body measures
    3 1/4" x 6"

    1 1/8"
.  This type of lock is not reversible and is righ
    t hand only
and will fit a door up to 1 3/8"  thick maximum.   Latch extends 1 1/4" with up and down motion.   This type of lock was used on both interior and exterior doors as the removable handle was actually used as the "key".  When you left home or just wanted privacy, the handle was removed and the latch could not be operated from the outside.   Each handle was hand threaded to match each individual lock and handles were not normally interchangeable between locks.  Complete with nice drive-in keeper 4" overall with a distinctive twisted brace.   Drive-in spike extends 3 1/2".  Back set is 3 3/4".  This latch shows exceptional workmanship and is in excellent condition.
