Antique 8' Carpenter Style Lock - S. Smith's Improved Rim Lock - Wrought Iron

Antique wrought iron Carpenter style rim lock marked on seal "S. Smith's Improved Rim Lock", circa 1830's.  The latch mechanism lifts up and down instead of moving in and out, hence the cutout keeper.  This large lock body measures
8" wide x 5" high x 1" proud
without the keeper which mounts on the door jamb and measures 1  3/8" wide x 5" and is trimmed in brass,  Very well made and quite heavy.  Lock is
left hand only and not reversible
. Restored in our own shop and complete with original narrow neck brass knobs measuring 2" diameter with brass rosette (1 7/8" diameter).  The brass oval key escutcheon is 2" x 1  1/2" and is a replica made in our shop.   This lock offers a slide privacy bolt operated via a brass finger slide on the bottom edge.  Complete with one 5" original key. Back set of 5 1/2" to knob center and 3 5/8" to key way center.   Knobs will adjust on site via holes in the spindle for a door up to a maximum 2" thick.
